Astronomy Education, Potiguar High School Degree, Cultural Astronomy, Freire's Pedagogy.

Astronomy is a very attractive area of science, which instigates the curiosity of many students, from basic education to more advanced educational levels. Since the first Brazilian curricula, we have noticed its presence in different ways, with a technical and physical astronomy prevailing, focusing on mathematization and the gravitational interactions of phenomena, for example. In current curricula, such as the BNCC and the Potiguar Curricular Reference, the scenario is not very different, and although we see new emphases and perspectives, a technical and physical emphasis still prevails in approaching these phenomena. In this way, our research presents a didactic proposal for teaching astronomy in the 1st grade of Potiguar High School, aiming to go beyond the astronomy concepts traditionally proposed in current curricula, inserting popular and cultural knowledge through a Freirean perspective of education. Our intention in approaching astronomy from this perspective meets the need to bring to high school an astronomy that values dialogue and the problematization of observable and experienced phenomena in our daily lives, establishing relationships between them and the cultural and popular knowledge of the Potiguar people. With this, our educational product, still under construction, aims to propose astronomy activities that contribute to a more critical and epistemological understanding of astronomical phenomena, recognizing the popular and cultural knowledge inherent in humanity's explanations of these phenomena.
