PLASTICS REUSE: A CTS APPROACH IN EDUCATION.
Chemistry Teaching; CTS Approach; PET Reuse; Teaching Sequence; Environmental Impact
The research developed in this paper addresses the environmental impact caused by the improper disposal of plastic waste, especially PET, and proposes a pedagogical intervention in high school to address this issue. It is based on the Science-Technology-Society (STS) approach, which aims to develop and implement an interdisciplinary teaching sequence focused on plastic reuse. The methodology used was action research, conducted with second-year high school students at a school in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The activities in this sequence included diagnostics, workshops, a mock jury, and evaluation. The aim is to achieve improvements in chemistry learning, critical thinking, and environmental awareness among students. A booklet was created to replicate the proposal. This study proposes integrating chemistry teaching and STS to develop citizens who are conscious and engaged with sustainability.
