THE GAME IN CARTOGRAPHIC LITERACY IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION – EARLY YEARS: possibilities for interactive learning in School Geography.
School Geography; Cartographic Literacy; Place; Educational Game.
In contemporary educational contexts, there is a growing need for School Geography to be approached
through methodological strategies and didactic resources that contribute to the development of
cartographic skills essential to the construction of geographic reasoning during the educational process. In
this regard, the present research aimed to design and validate an analog educational board game that
fosters the understanding of knowledge objects related to school cartography in the early years of
Elementary Education. Methodologically, the investigation included a bibliographic review of authors
who discuss the teaching of cartography in early education, cartographic literacy, the category of place,
and the use of games as pedagogical tools. In addition, a documental analysis of the curriculum guidelines
was carried out. The study followed a qualitative, exploratory approach, organized into five stages:
research, design, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The validation phase was conducted with
students from the fifth grade of Escola Estadual Senador Dinarte Mariz, located in the western urban area
of Caicó/RN. The resulting product was the board game titled "Trilhas de um Vaqueiro no Sertão do
Seridó" and an accompanying teaching sequence designed to support both teachers' practice and students'learning processes. The findings indicate that the didactic resource developed enhances the understandingof basic concepts in cartographic literacy and stimulates students’ engagement through the interactivity it offers.
