SUMMARY:

Geography has as its object of study the Geographic Space. In the teaching-learning relationship in Geography, to promote the understanding of its object of study, the teacher usually makes use of cartographic language, using its graphic materials in his classes, evidencing various phenomenons. With the inclusion of people with disabilities in regular schools, a new educational demand has arisen, and we must change our teaching practice to supply the educational needs of all those who attend schools. Being aware of this and having in mind that traditional cartography brings its products in a graphic language, where the sense of sight is a requirement, the use of such materials makes the teaching-learning process of blind or visually impaired people totally unfeasible.Making Tactile Cartography an inclusive and socially fairer method for teaching and learning Geography. Tactile Cartography is the branch of Cartography which deals with the production of several materials adapted for people with visual disabilities. The current research, in a professional master's degree level, presents as a product a textual material, based on practical and theoretical grounds, with the purpose of building a methodology for the teaching of Geography by using the production and application of tactile maps, aiming at contributing to the inclusion of students with visual impairment and special educational needs in the basic education system in Rio Grande do Norte. In this sense, it is expected that teachers can use the product to acquire the appropriate knowledge about this teaching methodology, and thus, promote inclusive education in their schools.
