SUMMARY:

This study investigated the challenges faced in teaching Geography in the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) program, with a specific focus on the final years of elementary school. It presents a brief reflective account of the EJA in our country, highlighting the structural and political conditions for its functioning, as well as the obstacles posed over the years due to the lack of effective public policies that ensure its operation and positively impact, addressing issues that hinder student participation and learning. The central question guiding this investigation is how the implementation of a didactic sequence integrated with a logbook influences the engagement and learning of students in the final years of elementary school in the EJA modality. To this end, it was necessary to construct a general objective, aimed at developing a didactic sequence applied to Geography EJA classes, complemented by specific objectives, such as assessing the historical impacts and public policies related to EJA, creating educational resources for classroom use, and applying the didactic sequence, including in-school lessons and fieldwork. The proposal is justified as a response to the structural and provisional problems affecting Geography teaching in this modality by proposing a comprehensive reflective action, building alternative paths to the existing reality. In the development of the research, we applied bibliographic, exploratory, and field research. Regarding the methodology for applying the sequence, we based it on dialogic construction on the topic, the production of didactic resources, writing, and fieldwork, guided by the completion of the logbook. The idea points to the possibility of geographic education as a learning approach, considering that it was designed to prepare students, according to the aforementioned strategies, for a geographic formative itinerary, with an emphasis on fieldwork in the central urban area of Currais Novos. Throughout the formative process, each participating student completed their logbook, which was provided and guided for use. The need for more comprehensive teacher training that is sensitive to the demands of the EJA, as well as the importance of flexible and creative strategies to address educational challenges, the use of active methodologies, and the weaknesses related to student attendance and retention are some of the conclusions highlighted in this report. In summary, the research aimed to overcome the obstacles faced in teaching Geography in the EJA by promoting a deeper understanding of the concept of urban landscape and its interactions with students' lives, with the goal of making education more accessible, meaningful, and transformative, suggesting a viable and flexible learning alternative that can be improved and applied in various EJA teaching experiences across the country.
