SUMMARY:

The importance of school geography in the students' education is indisputable, as this discipline offers tools, including cartographic ones, that help students read the local/global geographical space, thus understanding the relationships established with society. In this sense, the use of cartographic language is fundamental for conducting spatial analyses and readings, which contributes to understanding the relationships established in the geographical environment, both in natural and social dimensions. Three-dimensional models (maquettes) establish themselves as a didactic tool capable of mobilizing knowledge, particularly regarding the understanding and reading of the geographical space at local, regional, and global scales, whether from natural perspectives such as geomorphological and social analyses. From this perspective, the present research presents methodological propositions for teaching geography based on the construction and operation of relief models. Thus, the research starts from the following question: how to approach the physical-natural component of relief in geography classes, considering the geographical specificities of the relief of Rio Grande do Norte, promoting a contextualized and meaningful learning? Aiming to answer this question, the research aims to develop a didactic resource for teaching geography, with a manual for the construction and operation of maquettes in the context of relief teaching as a product. For this purpose, bibliographic research, documentary analyses, maquette production workshops in the classroom with 6th-grade students, and semi-structured interviews were conducted to obtain the maximum information for the construction of a manual that can contribute to the official materials, assisting teachers in the teaching-learning process of the physical-natural relief component.Keywords: Natural physical component relief, geography teaching, Models.
