RESUMO:

The present work has the objective of elaborating a paradidático book that deals with the indigenous population of the RN, directed to students of the High School. The concern with population studies goes back a long way in the history of mankind. There are records of census occurring in ancient civilizations such as China in 2238 BC in Biblical texts, and currently this type of study is still used as a method of counting the population. With the advent of capitalism and, consequently, of all the socioeconomic transformations inherent in this system, it became visible that constructed spaces differ from the necessities and the context of the production of life and with this, new ways of thinking the population. The study of the population includes heterogeneous groups, be it with regard to socioeconomic or cultural conditions. In this set, the traditional populations stand out, although inserted in the current historical context, seek to preserve the cultural roots of their ancestors, representing points of resistance to the current social system. Among the traditional populations, the indigenous population represented by the remaining communities, as well as by the population that in the IBGE census, declares itself as indigenous, even though it is dispersed by the State of the RN, without belonging to specific organizations or groups. Thus, it is important to research about this population group that sometimes has its existence ignored by society or summarized to stereotypes and prejudices from common sense. Thus, it is expected that the student of possession of this material can also analyze the reality in which he lives, comparing and contextualizing situations, perceiving the relations between different contexts, understanding that the geographical space reproduces from the way society appropriates of the places, making them reflections of the economic, socio-political, environmental and cultural interventions.
