The cartographic knowledge is closely related to the teaching-learning process of Geography, which can be seen as specific content or even be used as methodological resources that contribute to the teaching and learning of the School Geography. In this context, and considering the importance of Cartography for Geography, we focus on the problem of this work in the examination of cartographic knowledge present in basic education, especially in the discipline of Geography, taught in classes of elementary school, final series, having, as the center of the discussion , the observation and analysis of the cartographic approach regarding the concepts, contents, methodologies and objectives inherent to the use of Cartography in this teaching, starting from the teacher training in full degree courses in Geography, considering that the initial formation of this professional constitutes as the main element of this process. Thus, combining theoretical reference and field research, listening and analyzing the experience of teachers and students involved in this teaching-learning process, the main focus of this work is to investigate the cartographic knowledge related to the teaching of School Geography, empirical elementary education, final series, offered in the city of Pombal - PB. In this sense, this study seeks to promote a brief analysis of the cartographic formation of the Geography teacher, observing how its teaching practice is configured in relation to School Cartography, identifying possible difficulties or potentialities in the work with this theme. Finally, the work on canvas proposes to elaborate a methodological proposal of continuous training for teachers who teach the discipline of Geography in basic education, focusing on the approach of cartographic knowledge.
