SUMMARY:

This work focuses on the relationship between creation, performance, and aesthetic identity, making the suite the central object of artistic and analytical investigation for a new reading of this popular manifestation. Its objective is to present the compositional creation process in the classical form of a "Suite," which I call the "Baile do Boi de Reis Suite," a piece inspired by the Auto do Boi-de-Reis by master Manoel Marinheiro, a manifestation of popular oral tradition from Rio Grande do Norte, engaging in dialogue with the thinkers Nettl, Bauman, and Zumthor. The challenge was how to create and organize a musical work of oral tradition for the theater space? Methodologically, this approach was only possible through the recording of the Auto do Mestre in audio, scores, and images, carried out in 2001. The transcriptions contributed to the analysis of melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic forms, proposing an instrumental chamber music reading that is interpretative, performative, creative in its arrangements, and playable at any time and place, seeking to showcase the sonic richness of this popular manifestation of oral tradition, which represents music, staging, popular theater, and dance.
