This dissertation addresses the topic of collective teaching of cello and double bass in higher education, with the main objective of investigating collective teaching strategies used in classes for low bowed string instruments within the context of an undergraduate Music Teacher Education program at a Brazilian university. The research is grounded in studies on collective bowed string instruction and instrumental teaching strategies. The methodological procedures are based on Yin (2015), adopting a qualitative approach structured through the case study method. Data collection instruments included documentary analysis of the Course Pedagogical Project, a questionnaire administered to the instructor, and four classroom observations conducted in the course Cello and Double Bass I. The results reveal teaching conceptions and the challenges faced by a cellist performer who became a teacher of low bowed string instruments; furthermore, they indicate the strategies employed to teach fundamental aspects of these instruments. In conclusion, this research opens a space for dialogue and reflection on the particularities and fragilities encountered in this teaching modality.
