LIVING MEMORY: ARCHITECTURE DESIGN OF INDIGENOUS CULTURAL CENTER IN BAÍA DA TRAIÇÃO - PB
Architectural Design. Indigenous architecture. Cultural Center
This professional master's degree completion work consists of a technical design proposal for architectural intervention for an indigenous cultural center in Baía da Traição, intended for the Potiguara indigenous peoples of the state of Paraíba. Understanding the countless cultural losses that indigenous people have suffered historically, the work aims to propose a building that can be a stage and assist in a process of cultural preservation, through a vivid space, designed for the most diverse cultural manifestations. To develop the project, an initial theoretical-conceptual deepening of the topic and the target audience was carried out, through bibliographical research, design reference studies and field research. Next, the architectural programming was developed, with the identification of design dilemmas and, consequently, the establishment of goals for the project. From this base, and with the help of the subjects taught in the course, the design process was gradually developed and mapped, through different forms of recording, from the initial stages of conditioning studies, conception and development of the architectural design. The work sought to use architectural strategies to provide thermal comfort, in a fluid and integrative environment. Furthermore, parametric modeling was used as a tool in the design and representation of a bamboo roof, whose design was based on indigenous Potiguara graphics. The result achieved in this research consists of a preliminary project, where the main aim was to: create an atmosphere through landscape and materiality studies, which would enable natural living within an urbanized context; and combine contemporary construction technologies with traditional techniques, understanding which would best suit each situation. It is possible to conclude that the discussion of cultural preservation in the theoretical and practical spheres allowed the development of a product that portrays a reflective process resulting from a journey of studies and research in both the theoretical and project fields.
