SUMMARY:

Composting is a biological process capable of transforming organic waste into a stable, nutrient-rich compost, contributing to the recycling of materials and improving soil properties. This study evaluated the dynamics of composting urban pruning waste using pyrolysis products from Eucalyptus urograndis wood (biochar and pyroligneous extract) as bioaccelerators, as well as the quality of the final compost. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, with four treatments and four replicates. pH, electrical conductivity (EC), temperature, CTC, and nutrient content were evaluated. The results showed significant differences between treatments. The pH remained within the range considered adequate for stabilized composts, but the treatment with biochar + pyrolytic extract showed greater stability and less variation between replicates. EC was the most notable parameter: while the control showed high values (5.12 dS·m⁻¹), the biochar + pyrolytic extract treatment exhibited the lowest EC (2.72 dS·m⁻¹), indicating a lower risk of salinization and better agronomic quality. Initial temperatures revealed greater microbial activity in the combined treatment, which reached peaks above 50 °C in the initial weeks. The chemical composition also varied between treatments: the isolated pyrolytic extract increased nutrients such as P, K, and Mg, while biochar, when combined with the extract, moderated the release, resulting in a more balanced compound. Overall, the combination of biochar + pyrolytic extract demonstrated better chemical stability and lower salinity, making it the most promising alternative for accelerating composting and improving the quality of the final compost.
