Considering that an efficient management of the purchase of books at federal universities has overwhelming prospects of contributing to the provision of a more democratic and inclusive education, with quality and with efficient use of public resources. This dissertation project aims to analyze the management of book purchases and the development of the library system collection at the Federal University of Cariri. For this purpose, it will specifically aim to describe the book purchasing process with a focus on the performance of UFCA's SIBI; identify the stages of the development of the collection in the library; diagnose the obstacles to the management of book purchases and the development of the library collection faced by the university; and to propose actions and guidelines for the continuous improvement of book purchase management and the development of the collection. To achieve these objectives, a descriptive research with a qualitative and quantitative approach will be developed, adopting the case study as a research strategy. It will use documentary research, interview and survey as the main techniques for data collection, which will be analyzed based on the functionalist descriptive analysis and the basic statistical descriptive analysis. It is expected that this study will provide information that can be used institutionally to make book purchase management more efficient, as well as to give greater visibility to this process, whether within the scope of university management or within the academic community. and society.
