SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN SMALL TOWNS: A CASE STUDY IN CAICÓ/RN

Identifying the importance of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS), contemplated by Law No. 12,305/10, which institutes guidelines and tools for solid waste management throughout the national territory, with the objective of preventing pollution and environmental degradation, this the work focuses on the reality of the city of Caicó/RN. Given the difficulty that smaller municipalities show in developing a policy capable of meeting, in fact, the demands related to solid waste management, it is questioned whether this is the situation in one of the main municipalities in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. Thus, it is proposed to carry out a diagnosis aimed at identifying the actions and tools used in the central city of Seridó Potiguar, in order to point out important questions about how solid waste management occurs in small towns, or cities of up to 100,000 inhabitants.
