SUMMARY:

This study investigates the relationship between municipal income transfer programs, with a particular focus on the Mumbuca social currency, and the transformations of the urban space in the municipality of Maricá-RJ. The research concentrates on the dimensions of housing and urban infrastructure, exploring how these programs influence and interact with the transformations of the municipality's urban space. The analysis includes a literature review on urbanization, socio-spatial segregation, sustainable development, and the urban evolution of Maricá, as well as a discussion on income transfer programs, their guidelines, and the trajectory of social currencies. Regarding the methodology, administrative records and spatial data (with a focus on orbital images) will be used to construct a typology of the different profiles of land use and occupation in the municipality of Maricá, in addition to the construction of indicators on the circulation of the Mumbuca currency in the territory, to evaluate the relationship between the expansion of this municipal income transfer program and the observed transformations in the urban space in recent years. This study aims to assess the impacts of currency transactions on Maricá's infrastructure and housing, an element intrinsically associated with the improvements in the living conditions of the municipality's population, and, in turn, fundamental for the evaluation of income transfer programs and the development of urban policies, as well as for Demography.
