SUMMARY:

The general objective of this work is to understand the dynamics of the population's spatial mobility across the interior of the semiarid region from the perspective of different family compositions, bearing in mind that it is from this social institution that many of the decisions are made. for this, we had as a regional section the portion known as the northern semi-arid or sertão norte, which comprises the most arid zone with high vulnerability and dependence on social policies. comprising a stretch of the country historically marked by waves of emigrants to the most dynamic regions of the national territory, but which in recent decades has been undergoing significant changes both in terms of demographics and socioeconomic conditions, the northern semiarid therefore becomes an essential locus for understanding the phenomenon of population mobility. the methodological procedures were based on descriptive analysis via the acquisition of secondary data through the Automatic Recovery System-SIDRA-IBGE, and microdata from the Demographic Censuses (IBGE, 2000; 2010) to capture the sociodemographic and economic characteristics of people and types of family arrangements. . we have noticed so far that the process of demographic and urban transition has led to changes in the social structure, a fact that has culminated in changes in family patterns, such as the expansion of arrangements for childless and single-parent couples and the mitigation of nuclear arrangements for couples with children. this fact is reflected in the dynamics of population mobility in which, depending on the type of family composition, mobility or immobility suffers a greater or lesser degree of influence, such as couples without children who stand out as more likely to migrate and move than families with children. Another notable element was the fact of the expansion of flows for work or study, which are characterized by mobility over shorter times and distances, since the destinations of commuting flows are trajectories that we associate with different living spaces, a fact that we relate to internalization of capitalist production, the expansion of social policies and the expansion of higher education throughout the interior of the region, following a trend of productive deconcentration, which generates new dynamic spaces in the non-metropolitan portions of the Semiarid northeast.
