RESUMO:

The world, as well as Brazil, in particular, has faced in recent decades, a number of changes in its demographic, epidemiological and nutritional profiles. Among these modifications is the change in age structure, with the increase in the elderly population; and the behavioral changes and habits of life, translated into a new eating pattern (based on excessive consumption of calories), which, associated with physical inactivity, have been discussed as risk factors in the increased prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD). Particularly, Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2, has advanced significantly while morbidity and, especially, as a cause of mortality, mainly, above 60 years of age, with a strong prevalence, too, between 40-60 years of age. The scientific literature has shown that, among the different types of diabetes, the DM 2 has greater prominence, since its characteristic of multiple causes is directly linked to the current status of population behaviour, showing differentials between geographic regions. Associated with these causes and the genetic factor, it is necessary to highlight the importance of the constraints related to the occurrence of the problem. Variables such as age, sex, education and income, may have a relevant explanatory power for the NCD mortality. In addition to these variables, the information that makes up the epidemiological and nutritional profile also help in a better understanding of the event type 2 DM mortality. In this context is, as general objective of this work, identify and describe the main socio-demographic conditions of mortality due to Diabetes mellitus type 2 in the brazilian population, its large regions and States (UF), with special focus on the Northeast, taking for reference the 2000-2014 period. Will be used as the data sources Mortality information system (SIM), the Atlas of human development in the Brazil (BR-2013 Atlas), of UNDP, as well as national health research (PNS) 2013.This is a descriptive and multivariate study, focusing on the proportional mortality (Mp) for Diabetes Mellitus (MpDM), where the Brazilian will be taken as UF basic units of analysis. Descriptive analyses will be carried out with the use of adjustments of multiple linear regression models (MRLM), taking the MpDM as response variable and indicators of education, income and poverty, as explanatory variables. Will also be held a non-parametric statistical analysis, with employment of the Mann-Whitney test, to measure the differences of socio-demographic indicators and MpDM between two groups of UF, one represented by the Northeast region and another by UF of the more developed regions of the country, like the South, Southeast and Midwest.
