This study aims to combine the demographic and economic dynamics to analyze to what extent the changes in the labor supply has affected economic growth in the Brazilian Northeast between 1990 and 2015. The structural change in the demographic pattern in recent decades has changed not only the level but also the profile of labor. However, does the northeastern economic growth was influenced or not by these changes? This is on the assumption that this growth was influenced by changes in the composition of its age structure. To measure this influence will be used logarithmic decomposition of GDP growth, taking into account the number of hours worked. Preliminary the results showed that although the region present a "window of opportunity" favorable to growth, it is not being utilized rationally. The participation rate, labor productivity and the yield of the main work, also were lower when compared with other brazilian’s regions.
