SUMMARY:
Achieving full literacy at the appropriate age remains a challenge in Brazil, where only 53% of 2nd-grade students are considered literate. In this context, there is a need for effective and scalable methodologies that can be implemented across schools. In this dissertation, we evaluate the effects of a multisensory activities protocol combined with a school nap on the reading and writing skills of 1st-grade children from public schools in Rio Grande do Norte. The protocol is a classroom adaptation of an intervention originally developed for individual application, which previously doubled participants’ reading speed. However, the adapted version did not produce detectable effects. Further studies are needed to understand how to successfully scale this protocol.
