SUMMARY:

This study offers a critical analysis of three counter-hegemonic journalistic profiles on Instagram — @almapretajornalismo, @midiaindiginaoficial, and @nosmulheresdaperiferia — which promote the appreciation of Brazilian cultural identity and the democratization of information. The research draws upon Paulo Freire’s theoretical framework, particularly the works Educação como Prática da Liberdade (1967), Pedagogia do Oprimido (1970), Pedagogia da Esperança (1992), Pedagogia da Autonomia (1996), Extensão ou Comunicação? (2013) and Educar com a Mídia (2022) engaging with concepts such as dialogue, critical consciousness, participation, and ethics in communication. Methodologically, it adopts a qualitative approach based in Schleiermacher’s hermeneutics (2003) and Ricœur (2011), in combination with Charmaz’s (2009) Constructivist Grounded Theory, enabling the identification of Freirean principles within the profiles’ discourses. The analysis examines engagement strategies that subvert traditional media logics and advance inclusive epistemologies. By transcending the conventional informational model, the study advocates for a pluralistic, ethical form of journalism committed to social transformation.
