SUMMARY:

The central theme of this study is the analysis of the actions taken by the traditional community of Jacarapé (PB) in response to the challenges arising from the implementation of the Cabo Branco Tourism Hub, with emphasis on the relationships between tourism, socio-environmental crises, and social participation. The main objective of the research is to investigate how the local community articulates its social participation and develops strategies of resistance and adaptation in the face of the environmental and social impacts caused by this large-scale tourism project in its territory. To achieve this, the methodology adopted was based on triangulation, involving a combination of different methods of data collection and analysis, including field research, surveys of primary and secondary sources, as well as interviews with community members. This approach was aimed at ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the local reality. The study is expected to reveal that, although tourism is not the community’s main economic base, the implementation of the Cabo Branco Hub will create significant pressures on traditional ways of life, including the expropriation of resources and the need to adapt to new dynamics imposed by the project. Among the expected results are the strengthening of internal organization and increased social participation—as strategies to mitigate negative impacts and reaffirm collective identity. The research also aims to suggest that strengthening community participation may be a key factor for overcoming socio-environmental crises, serving as a reference for crisis management policies in similar tourism contexts and contributing to more sustainable and equitable development.
