SUMMARY:

Analyzes the professional training and the process of including students with special needs in the Eixo Turismo, Hospitalidade and Lazer courses of the Federal Institute of Maranhão, Campus São Luís Centro Histórico, considering institutional directions and pedagogical practices. The theoretical reference is based on a review of literature related to education, including tourism. The study, with a qualitative and descriptive approach, used bibliographic and field research as procedures in the content analysis methodology with emphasis on three courses of Eixo THL: Events in an Integrated Form; Tourist Guide in Subsequent Form to the Middle School; and Hospitality in the Educational modality for Youth and Adults. The survey was carried out and a documentary analysis contemplating the National Curricular Directives, the Institutional Development Plan and the Course Pedagogical Projects, all the institutional regulations and policies including the IFMA. An empirical investigation, as the use of questionnaire and interview tools, was applied together with servers, teachers, SEN support technicians, pedagogues and students with disabilities, totaling 21 interviewees, which allowed the analysis of pedagogical practices in professional education, apart from the experiences and expectations of students with disabilities in THL. As a result, the research points to the need for a more consistent approach to integrate social inclusion and the educational system in the investigated environment, especially the documents, methodologies and pedagogical procedures. The promotion of continued training and pedagogical support for servers, adequate technological support and incentives for projects that develop the skills of students with specific needs are essential to prepare them to perform fully and qualified in the diversity of the labor market.
