SUMMARY:

The central objective of this research is to investigate the collective memory concerning the development of tourism in the municipality of Barreirinhas, in the Lençóis Maranhenses. To this end, the following question/problem is established as the investigative basis: What emerges from the collective memory, from the participating social actors, regarding the transformations brought about by tourism development in the last three decades, in the municipality of Barreirinhas in Lençóis Maranhenses? Based on the methodology, a research project is conducted that takes on the exploratory, investigative and documentary purposes of data collection, provided with a qualitative approach, constituting the sample universe, the city of Barreirinhas, based on its different local protagonists, such as the former residents; as well as public management, especially in the municipal substratum; professionals from the private sector; informal providers of tourist services; in addition to the third sector and academia, from the Federal Institute of Maranhão, using the instrument of Semi-structured Interviews, guided by the principles of Oral History, thus permeating a methodologically deductive investigation. For the subsequent stage, which is configured by data analysis, the Content Analysis methodology of the Thematic Categorical will follow the guidelines proposed by Lawrence Bardin. Finally, as a result, we attempt to format a historical outline of Tourism established in the place, recognizing the path taken over the last 30 years.
