SUMMARY:

This study seeks to investigate the reconfiguration of women’s sex work in light of the growing platformization of the industry in Brazil. Although the phenomenon under study has expanded through neoliberal discourse—promising autonomy, freedom, and empowerment—these new dynamics often mask precarious working conditions, subordination, and the absence of labor rights. Based on this understanding, the research draws on a materialist-dialectical feminist perspective and aims to analyze this reconfiguration through the OnlyFans and Privacy platforms, seeking to understand how these digital spaces mediate the exploitation of sexuality under the logic of contemporary capitalism. To this end, documentary research and empirical research will be conducted with women working on these platforms, with the aim of understanding the implications of this new dynamic for these women’s working conditions and relationships. Therefore, the research aims to uncover whether migration to these platforms offers autonomy or whether, in essence, it represents a new form of exploitation, while also seeking to understand how digital mediation alters the supply and consumption of sex and how this affects the lives of these workers. In doing so, the project seeks to reveal the contradictions between the image of digital freedom and the concrete reality of exploitation.
