SUMMARY:

The struggle of people with disabilities implies, above all, ensuring a dignified and full existence for each individual, at all stages of life, regardless of the conditions that lead someone to experience disability. Therefore, the anti-ableist movement seeks to promote the understanding that physical impairments should not be seen as inherent limitations, but rather that each person with a disability or neurodivergent should have their potential fully recognized and developed. This dissertation aims to analyze how Brazilian Social Work incorporates the anti-ableist movement from the perspective of the CFESS-CRESS Group and to understand the determinants of this rapprochement. Regarding the specific objectives of the research, we seek to: identify the foundations of the rapprochement between Social Work and the movements of people with disabilities; characterize ableism and anti-ableism in Disability Studies, their causes, agenda, and points of convergence, consensus, and dissent expressed within the CFESS-CRESS Group; and to understand the socio-historical process of incorporating the anti-ableist struggle into the discussions of the CFESS-CRESS Group. Methodologically, the study will be guided by the critical-dialectical method of analysis, in light of the Marxist perspective. We will adopt a qualitative approach, drawing on bibliographic and documentary research. In the bibliographic research, we will draw on authors in the fields of Social Work and Disability Studies. The documentary research includes documents published on the CFESS website, considering the three-year periods "It Is Through Battles That Life Is Lived!" (2017-2020), "Better to Fight with Race and Class in Defense of Social Work" (2020-2023), and "May Our Voices Echo Life-Freedom" (2023-2026), due to the significant presence of the debate on disability and the anti-ableist movement within the CFESS-CRESS Group during this period. Eleven documents were selected that effectively addressed the elements required by the research objective. Embedded in specific historical and social contexts, these documents reflect the collective positions of the professional category and play an important role in disseminating these issues. Finally, the data obtained were processed and interpreted using content analysis. The relevance of this debate is undoubtedly a priority in Social Work, considering that it involves a segment of the working class that not only constitutes a significant portion of the users of public and social policies but is also represented among Brazilian social workers, making up the profile of this professional category.
