SUMMARY:

This dissertation, currently at the qualification stage, aims to assess the effectiveness of public sports policies in the municipality of Currais Novos/RN as a strategy for preventing risk behaviors and promoting social protection among adolescents. The study is based on the understanding that sport, when embedded in planned public actions, guided by educational purposes and articulated with other social policies, can contribute to strengthening social bonds, promoting meaningful use of time, supporting socio-emotional development and reducing adolescents’ exposure to risk situations. Methodologically, the research is characterized as applied, exploratory and descriptive, with a mixed-methods approach and a case study design. The unit of analysis is the municipal public sports policy aimed at adolescents in Currais Novos/RN. The empirical field corresponds to the municipality of Currais Novos/RN and to the institutional arrangement of municipal sports policies in interface with Education and Social Assistance. The empirical corpus will consist of documents, institutional records, interviews and questionnaires related to three selected empirical units: the Paralympic Reference Center, understood as an institutional structure that hosts sports actions aimed at adolescents; the Athletics Initiation Project; and the Municipal Sports and Cultural Games (JOMEC). Data production will be carried out through document analysis, semi-structured interviews with managers, technical staff and implementers, and the application of a questionnaire to 30 adolescents participating in the selected empirical units. Data analysis will combine descriptive statistics, thematic content analysis and triangulation of evidence sources. The research is expected to contribute to understanding the organization, implementation, intersectoral coordination and perceived effects of the sports actions analyzed, supporting the development of a technical-technological product aimed at improving municipal management of public sports policies for adolescents.
