SUMMARY:
Introduction: Early interactions between caregivers and infants play a fundamental role in the emotional, cognitive, and relational development of the child. Instruments that allow for the sensitive and culturally appropriate observation and assessment of these interactions are essential both in clinical practice and in research on perinatal mental health and child development. Objectives: 1. To conduct an integrative literature review on the interaction and bonding between the caregiver-infant dyad, and 2. To translate and adapt the Australian instrument Recorded Interaction Task – RIT for the observation of caregiver-infant interaction. Methodology: This is an integrative review and a methodological cross-sectional study on the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation. The review document was presented following the standards of a chapter published in the PROFISIO Continuing Education Program in Pediatric and Neonatal Physiotherapy. The aim was to synthesize the available knowledge on the theories that underpin the affective bond between the caregiver-infant dyad. For the translation and adaptation process, the instrument was cross-culturally adapted according to the guidelines of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons/Institute of Work and Health, developed in six stages: translation, synthesis, back-translation, expert committee review, pre-test, and submission of documentation for review by the original author. Content validity was carried out during the expert committee stage to assess clarity and equivalence, using the Content Validity Index (CVI). A CVI > 0.78 was targeted. Results: The integrative review resulted in a book chapter published by SECAD – Artmed in Cycle 14, 2025 of the Continuing Education Program in Pediatric and Neonatal Physiotherapy. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation process involved two translators for the direct version, three translators for the back-translation, and seven individuals on the expert committee, including the direct translators but excluding the back- translators. The pre-final version involved the participation of 30 individuals, including professionals and students in the health field. Conclusion: It is expected that, by the end of the process, the RIT will be available in a Brazilian version, culturally and semantically validated, and ready to be used as an assessment tool and support for early intervention, especially in contexts requiring greater attention to the quality of the caregiver-infant bond. As the next step, the pre-test of the adapted version will be conducted with health professionals and students to verify item comprehension and the applicability of the instrument in the field. The results obtained will be analyzed qualitatively, and, if necessary, minor adjustments will be made before submitting the final version to the original author for formal validation.
