SUMMARY:

In recent decades, extreme weather events have been increasingly studied by the academic community, given the increase in the occurrence and significant intensity of maximum and minimum temperatures recorded, hotter and longer days and nights, increased heat waves, greater precipitation intensity, an increase in dry days and fewer humid days, and anomalous behaviour in the atmosphere. In this context, the objective of this study is to detect possible trends in the pattern of maximum and minimum temperatures and precipitation in the municipality of Caicó/RN, as a way of investigating its behaviour over the last three decades, in terms of its variability in relation to data on precipitation and extreme maximum and minimum temperatures. For this procedure, daily data on maximum and minimum temperatures and precipitation between 1995 and 2025 from the Seridó/RN Climatological Station (National Institute of Meteorology - INMET) will be used. For statistical analyses and climate variability, software such as RClimdex (1.1) and Jamovi (2.5.6) will be used.
