SUMMARY:

This study is dedicated to social housing policies developed in Timbaúba dos Batistas – RN, with regard to their contributions to the production of urban space. Thus, the general objective is to analyze the production of urban space in Timbaúba dos Batistas according to the development of social housing policy. To this end, bibliographical research was carried out on social housing policy in Brazil, production of urban space and small cities. As for the local reality, it was reflected on the production of the urban space of Timbaúba dos Batistas, with regard to socioeconomic activities and the contribution of the development of social housing policy to the transformation of the city between 2008 and 2024, with that year as which led to the construction of the largest housing complex in the city. In addition, documentary and field research was carried out on housing, urban, economic and social aspects and the impacts on the life of Timbaúba dos Batistas society. The analysis of the work highlights an important contribution of social housing policy to the production of space in the small city of Timbaúba dos Batistas. However, when it comes to fulfilling the social function of housing in the lives of the most vulnerable social groups, many challenges still need to be overcome. Thus, we can state that the actions carried out to date are still not sufficient in terms of the social production of urban space, considering its multiple dimensions.
