PAGES: 61
BIG AREA: Ciências Humanas
AREA: Educação
SUMMARY:

This research investigates the possible contributions of a scientific biography of Robert Hooke (1635–1703), developed in light of the new historiography of science, to the initial and continuing education of teachers of the Natural Sciences (Physics, Biology, and Science). This biographical account, which constitutes an Educational Product, is grounded in the recognition of the relevance of the History and Philosophy of Science as didactic strategies capable of humanizing teaching and promoting a critical view of the construction of scientific knowledge, in contrast to reductionist conceptions that present science as a neutral, cumulative, and controversy-free process, resulting from the contributions of geniuses detached from the contexts in which they lived. The choice of Robert Hooke as a subject is justified by his significant contributions to several scientific fields, as well as by his relative invisibility, largely resulting from intellectual disputes, social factors, and characteristics of the scientific practice of his time. The development of a biographical account of Hooke aligns with the perspective of recovering forgotten figures in the History of Science and is potentially valuable for advancing the understanding of science as a human, collective, and social enterprise. The biography, prepared based on the study of the researcher’s works and secondary sources in the History of Science, will be made available through an online extension minicourse, which will include a recorded introductory lecture and an individual reading activity. The minicourse will target undergraduate and basic education teachers but will also be open to other interested participants, as the topic is of general interest. To assess the possible contributions of the Educational Product, diagnostic questionnaires will be administered before and after the intervention. The data analysis methodology will be based on Content Analysis, according to Bardin, allowing for a qualitative and quantitative examination of the responses obtained.
