SUMMARY:
This research problematizes the actions of Paraíba politician Ernani Ayres Sátyro e Sousa (1911-1986), the power struggles he exercised between 1964 and 1975, and the preservation of his memory in the present. It seeks to understand how his movements and his position as a man of the social elite and landowners, from a family lineage immersed in the power relations of the Paraíba backlands, influence the forging of his image in the present, as a man who left a legacy for our state and country. This study will be conducted through qualitative research,
investigating Ernani Sátyro's stance in a specific context in Brazilian history: the period encompassing the so-called Military Dictatorship (1964-1985). Therefore, we opted for an exploratory methodology, using documentary research with sources that will be used and mapped in detail in periodicals such as: A União, Diário da Borborema, Revista do Fisco, and Revista FUNES. This is exploratory research, with a theoretical foundation in the so-called New Political History, dialoguing with authors such as Bourdieu (1989), Deifruss (1988),
Falcon (1997), Fico (2004), Gurjão (1994), and Lewin (1993). This reflection will be developed with the purpose of analyzing and understanding how the context in which the main character was inserted, and his social place, influence his name to be remembered and honored in the present time.
