SUMMARY:
The school dropout is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that represents one of the most significant challenges faced by educational systems and a topic widely discussed by researchers worldwide. Efficiency, in turn, is a crucial measure of an educational system's ability to achieve its objectives effectively, optimizing resources and maximizing the impact of investment in education. However, the relationship between school dropout and efficiency is not just causal since dropout directly compromises the efficiency of the educational system. The objective of the research is to propose a relational model of factors that allows us to examine the interconnection between dropout rates and academic efficiency, based on a case study of a unit of the Federal Institute of Paraíba, located in the city of Itaporanga/PB. The research will be developed in the integrated high school at Campus Itaporanga, initially being conducted through a survey with the purpose of collecting data necessary to build the relational model. Likewise, select variables to calculate academic efficiency using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique, to compare the result with other IFPB units. Initially, the State of the Art on the topic was surveyed, covering the following focuses: Social and institutional aspects, Racism, Psychosocial factors, and LGBTQ+ inequality. These variables were the result of the synthesis of 97 articles found in the Scopus database, using the keywords Truancy and Absenteeism. The study will be conducted in six sequential stages: 1) exploratory literature review; 2) systematic bibliographic review (RBS); 3) description of variables; 4) efficiency calculation using the DEA technique; 5) carrying out the case study and survey; and 6) elaboration of the relational model. As expected, results of the research, build and validate the relational model framework, calculate the academic efficiencies of the course, and compare with other units in the same segment, to verify the variables with the greatest impact. Compare the results obtained with the results found by authors in the area to contribute to the literature around school dropout/efficiency. There are many opportunities for future research and methodological developments.
