SUMMARY:

This work presents a statistical analysis of the measurement uncertainty specified by the PIG MFL inspection technique (Pipeline Inspection Gauge Magnetic Flux Leakage) for internal wall thickness losses in oil production pipelines. The main objective of this work is to use some intrinsic parameters of the MFL technique, such as: speed of movement of PIG MFL inside a duct, level of magnetization of the tool and amplitude of MFL signal wave in defects registered by the tool. In possession of these values for each anomaly and consequently the measurement of the defect depth in percentage. The next step was the correlation of the depth of the MFL technique with the thickness measurement performed by the automated ultrasound technique, which makes a reliable measurement of the anomaly and later to study which are the parameters that most influence in reducing the measurement uncertainty of the MFL technique. Soon after gathering the data relevant to the study, a statistical analysis was carried out using the Box-Behnken Planning and it was identified that the parameter that has the greatest influence in reducing the measurement uncertainty is the MFL signal wave amplitude, even so it was verified It is also known that the union of the three parameters brings a better result than just the MFL signal wave amplitude. An important point to highlight is that the MFL wave amplitude brings with it different geometries for defects located in the body of the tube, when compared with the anomalies located in the TAZ (Thermally Affected Zone). Making an analysis necessary only for anomalies located in the body or in the TAZ.
