SUMMARY:

The research aims to investigate the invisibility of female care and the role of mothers/caregivers of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder, with the aim of understanding and analyzing the experiences, complexity and challenges inherent in the process of caregivers. The project included studies of social markers that involve this universe, such as: Gender; Race; Social Class and Disability. The research was developed through focus groups and a qualitative approach, seeking to explore the experiences lived by these caregivers, including the emotional, physical and cognitive aspects of care, as well as the interactions established with health services and the self-care strategies adopted. . The meetings took place in two moments and the study audience were mothers/caregivers of children and adolescents who are monitored at the Specialized Rehabilitation Center – CER III, Caicó/RN. For data collection, a semi-structured interview was used with the use of a recorder to systematize the narratives. The interpretative and analytical method adopted was hermeneutic, which sought to understand the meanings underlying cultural and social practices. As a result, the study aims to give visibility to caregivers, open paths for future studies within the universe of care, promoting gender equality and social justice and develop training for health professionals at the center specializing in rehabilitation - CER III, Caicó/RN.
