  • In today's world, the search for sustainability linked to human development is one of the greatest challenges. Measures, actions and various methods are being thought and Applied in order to minimize the anthropic effects that have been accelerating global warming and achieving environmental balance. In this scenario, the use of renewable energies, such as solar photovoltaics, is presented as an alternative for mitigating Greenhouse Gas (GHG)
emissions. This study pointed out the need to verify the environmental aspects and
potential impacts throughout the life cycle of a photovoltaic solar plant. For this, a Life
Cycle Analysis (LCA) study was developed. Given this scenario, knowing that the
Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), as a public teaching institution that
plays the role of promoting economic development linked to the preservation of the environment, several incentives have been created to disseminate the implementation of sustainability in this field. An LCA of the UFRN photovoltaic solar plant was carried out to obtain an energy inventory and a carbon inventory, measuring the amount of GHG that the university will no longer emit with the operation of this plant. This study provides the energy payback time and the carbon payback time of the UFRN solar plant. The reported values will be recommended to serve as a basis for creating new sustainability goals in the University's Sustainable Logistics Plan (PLS).

  • Three photovoltaic (PV) systems were installed in 2022 within the energy distribution network of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) Central Campus. Beyond the already connected and functional solar generators, new PV systems in Central Campus are foreseen within the next years, for the purpose the complying with sustainable goals. With the implementation of distributed generation, urges the necessity to evaluate protection parameters of the electric power system, considering that the load flow, which were essentially unidirectional – from COSERN grid to the load –, now turns bidirectional. The main focus of this work is to analyze solar plants contribution to short-circuits in the power system of the UFRN Central Campus and to define directional protection parameters of the electric substations where the photovoltaic panels were connected and of their feeders, in order to guarantee coordination between series protection devices.

  • In view of the changes in the composition of the energy matrix and the gradual increase in demand for electricity, studies of techniques to mitigate technical losses in power systems are encouraged. Thus, considering the cost-benefit of existing solutions in the market, it is observed the generation redispatch as a more widespread solution. However, the Corrective Switching technique stands out for providing cost reduction and a shorter execution time, when compared to generation redispatching. In this sense, this paper aims to establish a comparison between both techniques, presenting their pros and cons and validating the results obtained in two distinct electric grids. In a first step, the methodology developed for the Corrective Switching technique selects, by means of the Relief Function, the most promising variants in order to eliminate the overload in an overloaded branch, without causing overloads in other branches. From this selection and the execution of the load flow, the variants are ranked according to the total electric losses of the electrical network, choosing the most efficient variant. In a second step, for the generation redispatch methodology, a linearization of the electric losses minimization problem is proposed by means of the Lagrange method and the Gradient method. Therefore, using the simulation software Scilab, two routines will be developed - one for each technique - that will be executed for the chosen networks in order to validate the results.

  • The rapid growth of wind power generation is aligned with the guarantee of reducing polluting gases in the atmosphere, being a source of clean and renewable energy with great potential to generate employment and income. These factors make wind energy in line with national energy goals and make up a portion of the country's energy matrix. Brazil is a country of continental dimensions and has regions with high incidences of lightning strike, in this environment the impacts caused by lightning strike in wind turbines and other components of a wind farm is one of the most important issues in the implementation and operation of the complexes. In addition, several parks are installed in mountainous areas or mountain ranges that have soil with peculiar geophysical characteristics and high resistivity, causing, in addition to greater exposure to lightning strike, a difficulty in ensuring effective flow of spurious currents to the soil. In some cases, in addition to the forced shutdown that causes the generating units to be unavailable, the recomposition through the replacement of machine components can be extremely expensive, given the dimensions and specificities of some components. In this way, the present work aims to analysis the behavior of voltage surges caused by the impact of lightning strike in wind farms, for which experimentally validated equivalent circuit models are used for the various components of the wind turbine, blades, tower, mechanical connection systems, and electrical, as well as the grounds. A standard wind farm with synchronous generators connected to the transmission network will be used to assess the voltage levels caused by the incidence of lightning at various points in the system. The simulations will be performed with ATP (Alternative Transients Program), through its graphical interface ATPdraw. During the simulations, changes in specific parameters are carried out to investigate the behavior of the system during the transient caused by the impact of lightning, so that scenarios that allow the validation and proposition of improvements about the response to lightning surges can be evaluated.

  • With the increase in the number of renewable energy generators and energy commercialization, there is a disruptive trend in the current model of energy management in the Brazilian electricity sector. The electric energy in Brazil was previously acquired exclusively from state-owned generators and passed on to consumers through their distributors, however, now it can be traded between self-producers, independent producers, generators, traders, free consumers and special consumers in the Brazilian free energy market. Status Quo provides a focus for distributors activities on the maintenance, operation and development of distribution networks, in addition to an environment for the pluralized commercialization of electric energy. This commercial scenario drives the economy in the Brazilian electricity sector through the provision of new services such as personalized management of consumption and production of electricity for consumers. In this context, the acquisition of electrical energy encouraged as a source for the consumption of energy needs, the climate goals established in Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the Treaty of Paris, as well as the adoption of strategies for the conscious consumption of energy, justify the development of instruments for a greater consumption of electric energy, obtaining the maximum efficiency of income to large consumers. To subsidize such changes and maximize their benefits, advanced levels of automation emerge, supporting the performance management of electrical distribution networks with greater capacity to support the operation and real-time supervision of consumer units. In this context, the aim of this work is the development of the scientific base needed for the implementation of technological solutions directed to the management problem of energy resources of the consumer units fed by Brazilian distributors.

  • Centralized generation photovoltaic plants are a reality in the national energy matrix,
driven by the sale of energy in the regulated market from the Empresa de Pesquisa Energética
(EPE). For the registration of projects that wish to claim the sale of energy, it is
necessary to carry out a study of energy generation expectations. In this scenario, this paper
proposes the analysis of a technology that has been applied in recent years to increase
the efficiency of photovoltaic plants, called by bifacial modules, approaching the main
points to be discused in the simulation and application of these modules in large power
plants.A methodology for calculating energy losses from a photovoltaic plant to the point
of injection was developed, through the calculation of hourly losses, and, as an input database
for this simulation, an array of simulated photovoltaic inverters was performed in
PVsyst software. Finally, the sizing of the main equipment of a photovoltaic plant using
bifacial modules and the simulation of this plant are presented, proving the application
of the methodology previously discussed. In this way, it is expected that the work will
serve as a reference model for possible simulations of photovoltaic plants using bifacial
modules, as well as for the study of the generation expectation of a large photovoltaic
    plant.

  • The topic of electrical losses has been widely discussed in recent years among electricity distributors in Brazil. These losses correspond to the difference between the amount of electricity injected into the distributor's network, and the amount of energy billed. Part of these losses are considered technical losses, which consist mainly of the dissipation of energy in the various components of the electrical system, and the other part are considered non-technical losses, caused mainly by irregularities carried out for fraudulent registration of energy consumption (considered a crime of theft by the Penal Code) and billing failures. Today, concessionaires have very robust plans for combating non-technical losses, as they have actions that are easy to execute and have relatively low costs. Actions to reduce technical losses, since they require greater investment and intervention in the network, have a lower priority for electricity distribution concessionaires. This work focuses on technical losses, aiming to implement faster actions to reduce technical losses in the medium and low voltage segments of an electrical power system. Initially, a bibliographic review is carried out on the main topics related to electricity losses. Then, the work starts with a quantification of technical losses in various segments of our energy distribution system, following what is contained in Module 07 of the Electricity Distribution Procedures in the National Electric System (PRODIST). Finally, actions are proposed that reduce the losses quantified in the present work. In addition, the positive impact on energy and revenue is estimated, with the reduction of technical losses, proving the viability of these actions.

  • In recent years the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN has undergone a process of development and growth, with the construction of new buildings and laboratories in its Central Campus. With this, it becomes necessary to adjust the energy distribution network so that it can adequately satisfy the new demand. This work has the initial objective of analyzing the current topology of the energy distribution network of the UFRN Central Campus, and then proposes a reconfiguration of the energy distribution network so that any interruption of energy in the network reaches the smallest number of possible consumers. Computational simulations will be performed in order to analyze the current situation of the energy distribution network in case of a defect and, from there, to carry out the reconfiguration project. Two models will be proposed, both respecting the “Plano Diretor do Campus Central – PD Campus”, which has the intention of presenting alternatives to recover the possible loads due to a defect or maintenance in the network.

  • With the advancement of micro generation technologies and the increasing number of users of these systems, the low voltage distribution network needs to be increasingly robust to withstand the future problems generated by these new challenges. Low voltage electrical protection systems are generally limited to overcurrent protections, where the actuator elements are mostly electromechanical devices. Although they have been appropriate for a long time, the insertion of nonlinear devices into the power grid can cause some disturbances that will be sensitized by simple devices. However, in medium and high voltage systems there are complex advanced measuring devices that have a number of functions for actuation and protection. This project aims at the construction and implementation of a prototype low voltage protection system that has, in part, protective functions that are unique to higher voltage systems. The prototype will use an ATMEGA 2460 microcontroller coupled to an Arduino “MEGA” model board, along with measurement and actuation elements (TCs, TPs, Shields, Contactor). It is hoped that by implementing the project on a low voltage system, it will be able to protect it more efficiently compared to conventional systems, and also to obtain more data for monitoring. The prototype will also have the oscillography function that will allow a more complete analysis of the data obtained by the protection system. It will also have a bluetooth communication system for communication with smartphones, allowing a real time data visualization. The project aims at the least possible cost, since one of the goals is that its accessibility collaborates so that it is implemented in as many systems as possible.

  • Power concessionaires are now seeking to expand and modernize power systems in the face of new consumer demands and requirements established by ANELL. The protection of electrical systems plays a fundamental role in the maintenance of this system and in the control of its indicators. Distribution systems have several physical and technical characteristics, such as the operating time of the devices, load flows and short circuit levels. In view of the great diversity of these systems, the construction of a computational algorithm that assists in the mathematical procedures of system parameters, or even that, generate a previous automatic configuration of the devices is necessary in view of the wide demand offered to the protection engineers. The algorithm was initially modeled in order to determine the short circuit currents in each primary protection device, as well as to calculate the minimum currents of operation of the time overcurrent units and the timing adjustments of the relays. Due to the great universe of possibilities of adjustments offered by the code, evolutionary biology techniques were used, in order to choose in this population of possibilities the individual that makes the parameterization of this optimized system. If in the first generation the chosen individual does not match the optimal function, this population will be evolved from the procedures of natural selection, crossing and mutation of the individuals, present in the evolutionary techniques used in the algorithm. It is expected that genetic coding when applied to microprocessor devices with appropriate time interval characteristics according to standards, the algorithm is efficient and stable. However, for feeder circuits where the equipment timing is inadequate for a reliable study of coordination and selectivity, a change of the initial timing parameters will be suggested. • The production of electric power constitutes a major part of the economic growth plan
of any nation. Relative to other nations, Brazil possesses key advantages since the
design of its energetic matrix can be based on abundant renewable sources. One such
source, the focus of this work, is the biomass of the sugar cane, which is used in the
cogeneration of power that strengthens the Brazilian matrix. Although long available,
note that this source of energy has been underutilized in the commercial production and
distribution of electric power. The Program for the Incentive of Alternative Energy
sources (Programa para of Incentivo `as Fontes Alternativas de Energia, PROINFA),
established by the Federal Government in 2002, but extinct today, and the rise of market
for carbon credits triggered by the Kyoto Protocol, improved the situation in the last
decade. Indeed, during this period, the sugar-cane biomass has been used more
intensely, emerging as an important component of the Brazilian energetic matrix. This
dissertation analyzes data related to the harvest/milling and the amount of electric power
exported from a sugar-cane alcohol based thermoelectric plant that sells electric power
in an environment of regulated contraction (ERC) and in an environment of free
contraction (EFC), which is derived from sugar-cane bagasse. It was verified that using
the bagasse as the sole source of fuel, it was not possible to supply the yearly amount of
power that had been agreed upon with various electrical power companies. Therefore,
new calculation were made to add the straw with the bagasse to increase the power
production at the end of the cycle. It is concluded that the combined bagasse-straw used
as the fuel for the plant would provide a significant increased to the exported power,
achieving the annual goals, and considerably increasing the profits due to the sale of
    electric power.

  • This work consists in the development of a project to modernize the energy measurement and control system of the central campus of UFRN, using the industrial fiber optic network for data communication. Currently the university has a system of measuring consumption and the phenomena that influence the quality of energy, composed of 76 equipment, which attend to various buildings, linked to the electrical feeders of these buildings. A percentage of the measuring equipment is in operation and another part damaged or not communicated with the OIC-Operation and Information Center. In the present project, the efforts will be directed to evaluation and diagnosis of the measurement and control equipment, existing means of communication, design for the buildings not served and complementation of the data network. At the end, a descriptive memorial and cost forecast will be made available for system modernization. With the execution of the project, the university will have a valuable management tool that will send the information in real time to OIC, allowing control, management and sectorization of electric energy consumption. This can be carried out by apportioning costs, analyzing demand, quality of energy and saving by reducing costs.

  • This work deals with solar photovoltaic generation. Due to the growing energy demand of military institutions and the need for energy consumption models that require less financial resources, the work proposes a reduction of electric energy costs with the installation of a solar photovoltaic mini-plant connected to the electric power grid. A power generation system based on the solar source is designed for the self-consumption of a pilot unit, integrated a power management system in which it will be possible, in the expansion, to identify the profile of the load curve of the unit under study allowing the total management of the measurement point and improvement of the management of the apportionment of energy bills in each Military Organization installed in the territory of BNN (Naval Base of Natal). The premise considered is the energy self-sufficiency of the building using the solar resource as a source of electric energy and thus follow the guidelines of the project CON ENERGIA of the Brazilian Navy that is structured in three pillars: Free Market, Energy Efficiency and Distributed Generation . This system has several advantages, among them the use of solar energy and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of electric energy bill and reduction of electric losses with transmission, due to generation being close to consumption . The proposed system is designed to compensate for all pilot power consumption and an installed power of 165 kWp has been established. The basic components of the generation system and a three-dimensional modeling of the generation plant are detailed, as well as an economic feasibility analysis of the project.

  • The present work was thought due to the great necessity of insertion of renewable sources of
electric energy generation in the world energy matrix, more specifically, in the use of the
available thermal energy in the biogas. This use, in addition to providing energy, adds benefits
to the environment, because when not used, often biogas is released directly into the
atmosphere, being very aggressive to the environment. In this proposal, biogas is used in
internal combustion engines to drive electric generators. As a way to enable a better use of
biogas production, a software, SAGGAS, was developed. Through the volumetric flow data of
the biogas, its properties and technical characteristics of the installation, the SAGGAS
simulates the operation of the generation system and determines a combination of generators
that allows to maximize the generation of energy and the financial return. The program was
applied to the Baldowastewater treatment plant, located in the city of Natal/RN and owned by
the CAERN. The generation potential and economic viability of the investment were
determined taking into consideration the associated costs, the energy to be made available for
the installation and the surplus that will be injected into the distribution network.

  • Over the last few years, the UFRN has been receiving new air conditioning installations, to offer thermal comfort to those who use these environments and also to increase productivity. On the other hand, it was observed the considerable increase in the consumption of electric energy in the Central Campus, being necessary to take measures related to the rational use of these equipments.

Since 2013, in some buildings of this university, the VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system has been installed in some buildings. This system guarantees, in addition to the lower electricity consumption, better thermal comfort when compared to other air conditioning technologies, even though it is more expensive to implement.

The VRF system is one of the greatest technological innovations for environmental conditioning, having the high energy efficiency, thanks to its characteristics and possibility of remote management, offering the best operational control of the machines connected to the network interface.

The main characteristic of the VRF system is the high energy efficiency, since the system has multiple controllers, in order to guarantee the smooth operation of the machines and better distribution of the thermal load, thus avoiding perceptible temperature fluctuations within an environment.

This study proposes to verify, from electrical measurements and analysis of investments and indexes related to energy quality, the feasibility of adopting the VRF in the Central Campus of this university, being part of the technological innovation process related to air conditioning due to the new solutions that the system proposes to the users of these installations, related to the comfort and, mainly, the energy efficiency.

  • The necessity to maintain the quality indicators of electricity supply, DEC
(Equivalent Duration of Interruption per Consumer Unit) and FEC (Equivalent
Frequency of Interruption per Consumer Unit), both required by ANEEL (National
Agency for Electric Energy) has never been so imperative for the electric power
utilities companies. Year after year these indicators become increasingly
demanding. Besides, in a natural way, the electrical system only tends to grow
and become more complex, consequently bringing more technical challenges to
the Protection, Operation and Maintenance (O & M) areas of Distribution
Networks (DN). A Distribution Network, also known as a feeder, when shows
characteristics such as small dimension, densely charged and with a high level of
short-circuit current in the substation busbar (SS), is an example of challenging
condition to ensure coordination and selectivity between the circuit protection
devices. This panorama is especially difficult for the protection when there is a
consumer of Group A (e.g. 13.8 kV) connected at the end or near the end of this
type of feeder. With the significant investments made in recent years by electric
power utilities for the acquisition and installation of reclosers (RL) in the DNs, in
practice, the number of reclosers operating only as a sectionalising switch
(SECC) and not as a recloser or even as a circuit breaker, has also been growing.
This "sacrifice" occurs mainly in cases where there is no coordination for phase
overcurrent (ANSI functions 50/51), once for the earth/ground faults it can be
assumed that there will always be coordination (ANSI 50N/51N functions). This
resource is satisfactory for simple configurations of the RL-SECC type, however,
it has major drawbacks when it involves two or more consecutive (or serial)
SECCs in the feeder. Considering this scenario and the sophistication of the
current protection relays used in the control cubicles of the reclosers, this work
proposes a solution to the coordination and selectivity problem by making use of
the logic programming resources in the relays, transforming the recloser into a
hybrid device. This way, it operates as RL or SECC depending on the type of
short circuit. The hybrid recloser, in addition to operating as a dual behavior
device (RL / SECC), optimizing the use of this asset in the network, does not
require any change in the device protection setting upstream (recloser or circuit
breaker), nor does it depend on communication. In addition, it allows the
automatic self-healing of healthy stretches, in line with safety practices (it does
not increase the number of reclosing (ANSI function 79) of the upstream devices,
it can be activated and deactivated locally or remotely, etc.), moreover being a
concept not oriented to a specific recloser manufacturer. It is hoped, with this
work, to bring a new perspective to the area of study of protection of electric
power utilities companies and significant contribution with new practices of
protection settings and the operation of reclosers in DNs.

  • Currently, with the increasing incentive to use alternative and renewable energy sources, the number of generators connected to the electricity distribution networks has increased. Among them are, for example, wind farms, photovoltaic solar energy systems and cogeneration systems forming the so-called Distributed Generation.

In view of this global panorama, it is imminent the need to develop new technologies and computer programs that allow the optimization of the connections of generators in the electrical system. This should be done in such a way that, among other advantages, control strategies are improved and efficiency increased.

This work presents the creation of Optimal-GeDist software, developed to assist in the planning of electricity distribution networks in medium voltage. This computational tool calculates optimum power injection of the distributed generation in the network bars, in addition to determining the best connection points of future loads that wish to connect to the system.

Because it is a problem, in which search space is broad and with the possibility of local minimums, it was decided to use the Genetic Algorithm as an optimization tool, more suitable for this type of problem. Through its application, is possible to find the optimal point of operation of the network in order to optimize the technical losses of the system. For the simulation of the system, we opted for the Power Sum load flow method, developed for medium voltage radiated systems and presenting a fast and accurate convergence.

  • The scarcity of natural resources and the search for alternative energy
sources promote a rapid change in the global energy matrix. Among the renewable
energy sources solar energy is the most promising, since it has the highest
growth rate at present. Researchers around the world have sought ways of enabling
their progress, developing technologies with greater efficiency and lower cost. As
a contribution to the advancement of this technology, this document proposes the
development of a microgrid in continuos current connecting the photovoltaic panels
through a device with tracking strategy developed based on the method perturbation
and observation that will advise the electronic circuit power and a wireless
communication system for monitoring of individual generation. Simulations have
been developed for to choice of connection topology and comparison between the
proposed and traditional control method, assigning different input levels and graphically
checking the output responses. With the design and development of the circuits,
firmware and printed circuit board of the proposed device, it was possible
to carry out experiments to verify its capacity of energy conversion and to verify
responses of control methods mentioned above, placing it as an viable option and

  • The pursuit of distributed power generation has become a constant in the contemporary world. The consumption of electricity and all spending related to this necessity are frequently themes of issues in the most miscellaneous areas of knowledge. Power saving is a reality not only around private institutions. The UFRN has lived a transition moment in which it has stopped having its electricity supply through two inputs of electricity at 13,800 V and it has started to be supplied through a single line of 69,000 V. This simple change means a significant reduction in the power invoices. Linked to this new infrastructure, the University has implemented a system of supervision, measurement and billing of the energy which will be charged to each department. It makes the power substations to manage these units to use energy more rationally. In this perspective, this work is a research hint, about a technical-economic view which analyzes the load profile of one of the Departments - Bioscience Center - and then a comparative analysis in the working of a generator set out of the rush time - hours of the day when electricity is more expensive. This will be yet another attempt for power reductions by department and the use of idle installed capacity of generators with poor routine of maintenance. The proposal also includes a standardization in the installations of such equipment, the creation of a supervisory system (SCADA) capable of accessing these generator sets for better data management and daily operation of these generators.

  • In Brazil there are 794,699 km of networks and only 12,348 km are of underground networks, that is, less than 2%, and the others are from overhead electricity distribution networks. However, it is estimated that about 30% of the total wind farms in operation, that is, more than 3,000MW were built using underground networks. The proper sizing of these networks is of fundamental importance for correct functioning and guarantee of return of investments. Current projects and computer programs for project support take into account only criteria for conduction, voltage drop and / or loss of energy. This is because the initial costs are lower, but for all lifecycle of the wind farm the losses and operating costs can be much higher, reducing profits in other years. Besides that, this type of network has a high cost and the need to maintain high levels of reliability and operation for its use, it is necessary to develop more tools for proper sizing to ensure optimum resource allocation and operational efficiency, By reducing operational costs, increasing the useful life, as well as avoiding loss of revenue due to lost profits. The objective of the present work is to analyze the main technical and economic criteria for the design of medium voltage underground networks in wind farms aiming at cost optimization throughout life, as well as the development of a computer program that allows integrating the technical and economic tools, with a specific methodology based on norms for the adequate dimensioning

  • The Electric Power System model introduced in Brazil in the late 1990s produced a scenario with a high regulation level. The Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL) creation and its rules force the agents involved in that system to always seek the low tariffs with a high quality level of service and product quality. The requirements imposed on Brazilian Power Utilities result in the development of processes that allow a continuous improvement. Nevertheless, these strategies are not always sufficient to ensure good quality indicators. Many times, the processes do not hold a perfect synchrony to the point of avoiding execution failures. Other times, the failures are not in the processes, but in the equipment that are objective of the existence of the processes. As an example the preventive maintenance schedules that are developed in certain equipment of a Substation. Another example, unscheduled failures to be corrected is necessary that the correct information, scroll through the channels of communication to quickly and accurately reaching those responsible for maintenance. Correct information does not always reach the department quickly and accurately, but it is stored and cataloged for future analysis. This work aimed to reduce the DEC (Equivalent Duration of Interruption per Consumer Unit) indicator, improvement in maintenance planning and increase in the electrical installations’ s safety level in a substation. By building an embedded system designed to monitor the main internal components of a circuit breaker. With the results achieved, it is concluded that the device provided in the project meets the objectives imposed, being able to perform its functions with speed and assertiveness in the data generated. The integration of this equipment into the circuit-breakers will allow anticipating the failures making the electrical system more reliable and safe

Within this context, we introduce a proposal to draw up an electric maintenance plan on whose stakeholders enjoy a systematic approach focused on preventive maintenance, based on the management of information of all elements of the electrical energy system. Accordingly, starting from the analysis of the most modern techniques of electric maintenance management, we can define one that better fits the reality of the electric power system of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – UFRN, thereby drawing up a case study through the development of a management system based on the registration of all its elements, whose content gathers the aspects related to the generation of inspection reports, corrective and preventive maintenance, and registration of technical data on the electric equipment, building a database structured in ACCESS accessible by means of QR code in the places where the equipment will be installed.

O ponto inicial do

  • The solar projects developed in Brazil, for being relatively new, still face difficulties in relation to the processes and project care that should be taken to it's consolidation, since there aren't sufficiently complete bibliographic references that address the project development stages of large solar power plants (over 5 MW) in the country. In this scenario, this paper proposes an flowchart of services for the development of photovoltaic power plant project in Brazil, considering the bureaucratic processes that must be taken by the appropriate bodies in order to obtain permits, licensing and electrical connection permissions, as well as expose tools and design process steps commonly taken by companies in the sector. Finally, a technical project will be presented proving the implementation of the previously discussed methodology, with the development of memorial, layout and single-line diagram. Thus, it's expected that the work will serve as a good role model for deployment of photovoltaic plants in large scale in Brazil by exposing steps, knowledge and appropriate skills that make the project development process of this power source more simplified, fast and effective, serving, therefore, as reference for professionals and companies looking to invest and/or gain knowledge in this sector which, every day, is gaining more competitiveness in the Brazilian market.

  • This job makes the assessment of the wind turbine components with the biggest number of failure rate within all the wind turbine sectors using the wind farm historical operational data. After identifying those components, a more adequate maintenance routine will be planned for those components in order to avoid unexpected failures and consequent financial loss by the lack of energy generation. The proposed routine will have the focus on minimizing the maintenance costs followed by a natural availability increase, also increasing the energy generation. The job will have the reliability study as a basis to be applied to the maintenance. The Weibull Distribution was applied as the probability distribution for this case study. The schedule of maintenance is prepared by a program created in Microsoft Excel that is based on past experiences and occurrences of a specific wind farm, feeding the program with new data in order to re schedule the maintenance schedules in the most appropriate timing for the analyzed systems. Components able to become the wind turbine unavailable in generating energy will be considered as critical components and therefore they will have their maintenance schedule optimized based on costs and observed the respective failure probability which is different from the current maintenance routines that are not dedicated for the wind farms but generalized for any one. The current contracted preventive maintenances are performed time to time and they are not taking into account the criticality of some components Maintenance suppliers are only committed to deliver a minimum availability rate, but without contractual responsibility with energy generation. Also is part of this job, show to the wind farm owners and maintenance suppliers how much is important a Reliability assessment in order to obtain a bigger financial return by minimizing the maintenance costs and improving energy generation based on an adequate maintenance schedule for each specific wind farm.
