Presentation

The main purpose of the Graduate Program in Mechatronics Engineering is to train/educate students, initially at Master’s degree level, in Mechatronics Engineering, as well as in related areas such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering, among others, to perform in basic and applied research, technological development and innovation, in the field of Mechatronics Engineering. The master in mechatronics engineering will be able to act in the whole process of designing mechatronics systems, from its design to its implementation, both in the virtual engineering processes of the precision mechanical systems, in the embedded electronic systems in all their levels of hardware and software architecture, as well as in smart information processing, involving automation and control techniques of dynamic systems, signal and image processing, among others.

The proposed training involves a solid theoretical base, provided mainly by the compulsory courses, which enable the student to produce knowledge and to conduct basic and applied research in the proposed subject area, in addition to enabling him/her to continue studying at the doctoral level. Specific complementary courses further this training in content related to the topic of dissertation addressed. During training, the master's degree student may acquire skills in mechanical modeling, virtual engineering, automation and control of dynamic systems, embedded systems, robotics, smart systems, signal and image processing, among others.

It seeks to form a professional capable of acting in Mechatronics Engineering, from basic research, to the development of mechatronics systems that can result in products that incorporate high technology and high added value. Therefore, the Program aims to train/educate Master’s degree students capable of applying, as a result of their solid academic education/training, the acquired knowledge in the design and development of mechatronics products that may eventually result in the incubation of companies at UFRN. This is in line with UFRN's goals of promoting the implementation of a technology-based business cluster in Rio Grande do Norte. With this, it is hoped to contribute to the regional and national development, training/educating professionals to act as entrepreneurs, capable of incubating startups, or to meet the demand of the industrial sector for highly qualified professionals in the field of Mechatronics Engineering.
