The Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics (DIMAp), Center of Exact and Earth Sciences, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) - was founded in 1985 and today operates in teaching, research and extension in the areas of computer science (or computing) and applied mathematics. In teaching, the DIMAp supports undergraduate and graduate degrees. DIMAp is the main responsible for the Computer Science (BCC) and the more recent Software Engineering (BES) degrees.
We also have a Tutorial Education Program which is a national project, organized through some undergraduate courses of Higher Education Institutions in Brazil. Our group is from the Computer Science (CC) course (PET-CC).
The department also has a strong collaboration in the Computer Engineering (CE) degree, and, more recently, in the three-and-a-half-year Information Technology degree (BTI), and several other basic disciplines for undergraduate UFRN. At the graduate level, the DIMAp houses the Graduate Program in Systems and Computing (PPGSC), with Masters and PhD degrees.
The Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics ( DIMAp ) was established by Resolution No. 100 of the University Council (CONSUNI) of November 7, 1985, by the dismemberment of the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics. The creation process was initiated through a project developed by a committee chaired by Professor Maria Estela de Carvalho Araújo.
The group that composed the teaching staff at the beginning, the founders, was formed by the following professors:Adrião Bernardino de Sena, Álax Jorge Morais, Antonio Eduardo Bulhões, Carlos Augusto Cavalcanti de Lima, Dário José Aloise, Estela Maria Araújo de Carvalho, Gilvan Trigueiro, Ióris Ramalho Cortez, João Soriano da Cruz, João Wildes do Nascimento, Joaquim Elias de Freitas, Lourival Coelho da Silva Filho, Luiz Amorim Carlos, Luiz Gonzaga Damasceno, Márcio Muniz da Silva, Maria Sônia Nogueira, Nilda Maria Teixeira de Cerqueira e Orlando de Castro Moreira.
