Welcome to the Administration Course at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FELCS) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).
The authorization for the operation of the Administration Course at UFRN, at the Central Campus, was granted by Decree-Law No. 1,201, of June 19, 1960, and its recognition through Federal Decree No. 80,352 of September 16, 1977. Within the multi-campus system, in 1979, the Administration Course was implemented at the Currais Novos Campus with an initial offering and filling of 15 vacancies through an entrance exam, with the entrants eligible to obtain the degree of Technician in Business Administration, with a diploma issued and recognized according to the legal instruments of the Course, installed at the Central Campus.
From 1981 onwards, with the restructuring of the Administration Course at the Central Campus, whose effects reverberated in the Currais Novos Course, entrants began receiving the title of Bachelor of Administrative Sciences, completing a total of 194 credits, corresponding to 3,015 hours of effective workload, including the Mandatory Supervised Internship. At that time, credits had to be completed within a minimum period of four and a half years and, at most, nine years, with an average completion time of five years, and physical education practice was required.
The curriculum in force at that time emphasized close links between society and the conception of a centralizing business profile, based on prevailing standards of work organization and production. The didactic-pedagogical organization and academic training of the Administrator, therefore, were based on a mechanistic, rigid, and centralized conception of the curriculum and business, marked by the principles of the Fordist and Taylorist schools of Administration.
Throughout its history, between 1981 and 2002, the total number of students admitted was 418, with an annual average of 15 students, including 20 students from other Higher Education Institutions. The number of graduates in the same period was 152.
With the approval of the LDB in 1996, the Ministry of Education's policy of managing Federal Institutions of Higher Education (IFES) began to add mechanisms for controlling efficiency and qualitative and quantitative performance, which included the elimination of idle capacity and the gradual increase in vacancies, linking them to budget allocation.
As a consequence of the Ministry of Education's policy for IFES, UFRN modified the entrance exam, reducing the elimination criteria. Thus, from 1998 onwards, the Administration Course at CERES increased the number of vacancies to 35. In 2004, the offer increased to 45 annual vacancies, and in 2010, it increased to 50 annual vacancies, all of which have been fully filled.
